City Center, World's Fair Complex

Seattle city center sits just a bit north of west of Elliott bay. As probably everybody knows, the World's Fair in 1962 was held here, and the effects of that live on to this day.

The half globe fountain in the World's fair complex. Seattle kids come to play in this, and the other fountain (not yet photographed) during the hot days of summmer.

The Space Needle is, of course, visible from almost everywhere in the complex. This is a view from the grassy park around the half globe fountain.

Needle and fountain in one shot.

A closeup of the fountain.

The Needle, over the trees.

The iconic monorail. This was a darling of the World's fair, and to this day still sees a fair amount of tourist traffic, even though it only goes from the shopping mall at West Lake, to the Needle.

The Needle, again, from a different side. Not that you can tell, since it is symetric around it's axis.

The visitor's center, elevator service and gift shop at the base of the Needle.

The "Experience Music Project" building. One of the performing arts buildings around the needle. This one was supposed to be a work of art all by itself.

The complete Space Needle, from the W side.

A sculpture in the SW corner of the park in front of the Needle.
